Avalon Robotics was proud to participate as a sponsor and exhibitor at the NL Health Services Health Innovation Summit, one of Atlantic Canada’s leading gatherings of healthcare leaders, innovators, and technology partners.
For us, it was an opportunity to connect directly with the people shaping the future of healthcare and to show how robotics can play a practical role in that future.
A Summit Focused on Real Change
This year’s theme, “Refocusing Health-Care Innovation: Active Approaches to Population Health and Well-Being,” brought together clinicians, researchers, and decision-makers for meaningful conversations.
A key highlight was the discussion around a national council to support the movement of healthcare innovations across Canada. NL Health Services continues to lead as a “Living Lab,” giving companies like ours the opportunity to work directly in clinical environments where solutions can be tested and refined.
Bringing Leo to the Floor
At our booth, we introduced Leo, our autonomous mobile robot designed to support hospital logistics.
Healthcare professionals were able to see how Leo:
- Navigates independently in clinical environments
- Delivers supplies and specimens between wards
- Supports staff with simple, reliable automation
- Adds assistive and patient-friendly interactions
One comment we heard often from nurses was:
“This would save us so much time.”
A Practical Tool for Care Teams
Leo is built to support everyday hospital workflows:
Autonomous delivery
Secure movement of supplies and specimens across departments
Assistive and patient-friendly features
Supports engagement in areas such as pediatrics and long-term care
Flexible and secure configurations
Adaptable for open wards or controlled environments
Part of a Growing Ecosystem
Sharing the space with organizations like Accenture, Amazon Web Services, and Deloitte highlighted the collaborative nature of healthcare transformation.
Avalon Robotics is working with healthcare institutions across Canada to pilot Leo in real clinical settings, gather data, and refine use cases that improve both patient care and staff efficiency.
Looking Ahead
The message from the summit was clear. Healthcare teams are looking for solutions that reduce workload, improve efficiency, and give time back to patient care.
That is where we are focused.
